This is my favourite green bean. It produces very well all season. The bushes grow to around 30-40cm tall.
Snake beans are very heat hardy and this one produces heaps of red, totally stringless beans for a long time. Pick before the seeds become noticable in the pods.
When to sow: After risk of frost in late spring, when the soil is warm. I sow in November here in Southern Australia. Sow direct where they are to grow, 30cm apart.
Plant type: Bush.
Uses: These cook very quickly so I like to steam them for 5-10 minutes. They are not nice when overcooked. Can be added to other cooked dishes.
Growing Conditions: Tolerates most soil conditions. Water regularly in summer.
Pests and Diseases: Very few pests or diseases. Don't worry if the plants attract ants while flowering and podding, they attract the ants to help them defend against other insects. The ants do no harm.
Special Qualities: VERY prolific bearer. Heat tolerant.
