Ground Cherry: Aunt Molly

Ground Cherry: Aunt Molly

Regular price $3.50 Sale

Name: Ground Cherry 'Aunt Molly', or Cape Gooseberry 'Aunt Molly'

 Physalis pruinosa

Origin:

In my opinion this is the best tasting of the ground cherry varieties. This variety does not grow as tall as the others. Harvest the papery husked fruits after they fall off the plant. You may need to keep the fruits on a plate in front of a window to finish ripening.

Don't eat unless the fruits are fully yellow, or they will taste nasty. sweet and fruity flavour. Some of the fruits that drop will not be fully yellow and you can store them in a bowl to ripen fully.

When to sow: Spring after risk of frost has passed. November/December in Southern Australia

Plant Type: bush to 1m tall

Uses: fresh fruit, jam

Growing Conditions: Will grow in most conditions and on poor soil. Water regularly in summer.

Pests and Diseases: Very pest resistant

Special Qualities: tasty

Seeds: 30 minimum
