Name: Crow River
This is my favourite bush dry bean. It produces very well. The bushes grow to around 40cm tall.
Harvest when the bush starts to dry down and most of the beans are brown. Pull up the bush and turn upside down in a sun for a day or two to finish ripening the rest of the beans.
When to sow: After risk of frost in late spring, when the soil is warm. I sow in November here in Southern Australia. Sow direct where they are to grow, 30cm apart.
Plant type: Bush. Dry, pinto bean
Uses: Dry bean for adding nutrition and texture to cooked dishes like soups, casseroles and stews.
Growing Conditions: Tolerates most soil conditions. Water regularly in summer.
Pests and Diseases: Watch out for bean borer moth. The caterpillars chew holes in the seeds.
Special Qualities: VERY prolific bearer. fairly heat tolerant, and bears early so escapes much or the hottest temps of summer.
Seeds: Minimum 30 seeds
